Skill Up gradation & Capacity Building Training Course under Comprehensive Handicraft Development Scheme has been sanctioned by O/o the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India Vide No. C- 11011/28/2011-12-CC (MC-Srinagar), dated 30/03/2012 for training 4000 artisans of Srinagar District at a total cost of Rs. 545.92 Lacs GOI share was restricted to Rs. 400.0 Lacs. Out of which the first instalment of funds to the tune of Rs. 160.00 Lacs was released in the first year vide no.C-11011/28/2011-12-CC (MC-Srinagar) dated: 30-03-2012. Subsequently, all the documents/records along with audited statement of accounts & Utilization Certificate were furnished to O/o DC (Handicrafts). Accordingly, the second instalment of funds amounting to Rs. 128.90 Lacs was released vide no.C-11011/28/2011-12-CC (MC-Srinagar)-1 dated: 04-09-2015. Overall an amount of Rs. 288.9 Lacs, against the Sanctioned amount of Rs. 400.0 Lacs were released till 31st March 2016.
The Institute Conducted skill up gradation & Capacity Building training course at 07 Artisan Development Centres viz IICT Bagh-i- Ali Mardan khan, Saida Kadal, Check Bagh, Handam Mohalla, Shanpora Habbak, Rakhi Arth Bemina & Mir Behri, were established in different parts of craft concentrated area of District Srinagar. The services of Resource persons/ Experts/ Professionals were availed for conducting training as per the endorsed course curriculum. During the 03 years tenure, 3585 artisans hailing from various areas of District Srinagar have been trained in 07 ADCs which includes both men as well as women. The milestone achieved under programme is that number of female trainees is more than male trainees. This points towards fact that unlike many other male dominating crafts/occupations in the District, carpet weaving engages a large proportion of females and thereby helping in women empowerment.
